bright sparks

It has been just so hot here in Melbourne that I have been unable to think & actually ended up being sent home from work yesterday with heat stroke. Added to that, my train line was non-functioning + we lost power at home too. I think I have consumed about 48 icy poles in 3 days and may have declared yesterday that I would marry my desk fan if it promised to keep me cool forever. Clearly, I got a little hysterical.

The bright spark in the heat wave for me was that I just found where to get the Mumford & Sons EP. I saw Marcus from Mumford & Sons last year when I went to see Laura Marling at the Corner and loved his voice almost as much as I love my fan (alot, in other words). And finally, I have found their songs to buy! My fave is white blank page but go here and have a listen for yourself.

i like almost nothing more than sitting in the sun and feeling the heat on my skin. thank goodness its summer, i spent a blissful afternoon laying in the backyard reading my book. i don't know if it gets much better than that

after a bit more work, i think i am finally done with this one. i'm actually really happy with it, its a little different from what i have been drawing which i think is a good thing. i feel like i have been stuck in a bit of a rut, kind of a new years hangover of sorts. i'm not really sure what to do with it now though, i sort of love it too much to give it away so maybe i will actually keep it ( i tend to give away most of my work, i just can't have it around for some reason)

well i tried...

so after looking at the all the pretty pictures in the magazines i mentioned in the last post, you know that it was going to only be a matter of seconds before i started sketching. here is the beginnings of one i started on the tram today. so far i like it, and it has a man in it which for those of you who know me is a mean feet because, quite simply i can't draw them. seriously, i have tried but they always look odd or basically just like girls. so let me know if you think its going ok, its clearly not finished but i thought i'd share.

well, mine is that i am a sucker for pretty pictures. yep, thats right - especially when they are contained within the lovely glossy pages of a magazine. i made the mistake of going into magnation on the way to work today. i wanted to escape the heat + as a little reward, i hadn't been in there since november, so its only far that i could stop by hey? luckily, i brought my big bag because i walked away with the stack of mags you see in the pictures above. i couldn't resist getting the last issue of amelias magazine, or vanity fair with kate winslet or the dreamy december issue of british vogue. i mean, with stunning pictures like the ones below, you couldn't blame me right?

i've been re-photographing my cards + stationery for some updates to my shop and catologue (and maybe this blog too soon). it was actually really fun once i got the look i was going for actually coming through on the screen. i was going for a little whimsical, with a heavy collage element as this is really an important part of my work. i'm pretty happy with the results, let me know what you think.....
