gorgeous shops + a new look

image from orlando + ivy

how gorgeous is this store? orlando and ivy just opened up in north melbourne at the start of march this year. i discovered it when i was out wandering on my lunch break and i as so glad i did. they stock amazing art, design and all manner of other irresistible bits and bobs. plus the store is gorgeous - seriously i had to walk out the first time i went in because i had serious pangs of jealously because it is everything i want my shop to be when i open it one day. i have gotten the jealously under control and been back. and you should go visit too and check out there website.

check it out

I seem to be telling you guys what to do lately - i'm so sorry to be so pushy! but today i am just so excited to share the cool things that happened to me today. cool things never happen to me. ever. but today the world turned upside down and things totally went my way. and i am still buzzing about it hours later. i may have even shed a sneaky tear.

1. look out for my illustrations in the new issue of peppermint magazine with the totally rad renee on the cover.

2. my avant card arrived today. coming to a cafe near you! i am super excited about this because i collect these (seriously i have boxes) but also because i love this illustration. i did it over two years ago - it was one of the first i did - and i am still proud of little juliet today.

be my fan

i have always wanted a fan club. you know a cool one were you get little letters, the signed photo of luke perry and other fun things? alas my acting/singing career hasn't quite taken off as i hoped when i was 7.
but 20 years later and without having to sing or dance i have one.
well a fan page anyway. check it out. be my fan, i promise i won't sing or act.

i don't mean to be pushy but..

you should buy this album i speak because i can

laura marling is honestly amazing (you might remember i saw her live a little while ago). i have listened to her first album pretty much everyday since i got it  2 years ago because i adore it so much. and i never ever get tired of it. and i have a feeling this new one will be the same.  my faves so far are rambling man + goodbye england.

and i am super excited because i am going to maybe see her again live in the USA. and I am seeing mumford + sons while i am there too. double yay!!!

stuff and nonsense

i have a cold which isn't ideal. i do feel like i have been run over by the sniffles truck today and have spent the day curled up in a ball with a never ending supply of orange juice and warm water with lemon to help me break the cold. not sure it is working.

on the bright side i did have a super weekend. wanna see what i did?

ok .......

i picked up the new angus + julia stone album down the way on friday night. you should too. and gosh it's unreal. my faves so far are and the boys +  black crow. just dreamy. and i get to see them next week. 'swoon'

i went to drop off a heap of new goodies at fannyz - a pretty sweet boutique across the river at 174 chapel street windsor. drop in and say hi to pippa and pick up some of my prints, one of a kind cards & other goodies. i also stopped into the salvos on chapel and picked up some super glasses and dishes which i am making into more of these lovely cake stands which i think i will bring along to rose street this weekend. what do you think?

all of these lovelies for $12!

and one of the finished platters

i then visited the new shop curious little oyster which stocks lots of amazing goodies from lovely people like twin set  and shadow theatre among many many others. its the sweetest little shop ever and i will absolutely be returning soon. If you are in Melbourne stop in and say hello ( 776 High St | Thornbury)

any place with outdoor furniture + amazing tile details is the place for me. oh and the food kicks butt too

then i spent the day exploring my fave area - northcote. gosh i love exploring the area around my home.
tips for visitors :

:: go to the estelle for lunch - sooooooo good
:: see some lovely art - i saw catherine campbell's latest show at kick gallery. stunning.
:: checkout the great shoppes in the area in the woods +  dear gladys

i also went to costco with my mum. this was by no means NOT the highlight of my weekend. it is crazy. 5L bottles of windex. and kayaks in the same aisle. I am still recovering from the super size me style of this place. i did get a 8 kg pack of baking soda and 5L of vinegar for $6 total though so i am set for lots of earth friendly cleaning

oh and then i baked a yummy strawberry butter cake with smashed strawberry topping. it may have turned out a little smaller than i expected, not that i had anything to do with that off course :)

hope you had a nice weekend too xx

truth//gee i wish i was cool

here is the truth readers.

i wish i was cooler. some people are just awesome without even trying. and i am so not one of those people at all. it could be because i am clumsy and totally socially awkward. it may also be that i like wearing bows in my hair. and i am 26. it probably doesn't help that i can recite lines from movies like bring it on. useless knowledge like this does make me a pretty great trivia player, but not any cooler.

so you can imagine that when i saw the new she & him clip i just felt a little less cool, if possible. because lets be honest, we all know that zooey deschanel is pretty much the coolest. but i guess she does wear bows in her hair so maybe there is hope for me yet.

oh and the song is great!

10.3.10

truth// i wish i was there

the guggenheim museum in new york is pretty iconic, i know you will all have seen images of the organic spiral. i think its perfect. this photo was one of the first things that made me realise i wanted to be an architect. while the dream may have shifted focus slightly this is still one of my favourite buildings.

in 49 days i will be there. in new york. going to the guggenheim maybe.

and i can't wait

9.3.10

decorating + bright rugs

i love to decorate my house. ever since i was a little girl i have been decorating, drawing little plans and measuring my furniture so i could give new life to my space, driving my mum crazy for sure. and i still do it to this day, even after studying architecture and being surrounded by samples and tiles all day.

the lovely people over at buyster are sending me one of their rugs to try out and review. and it's a lovely blood orange. when it arrives i'm planning on employing some of my not often used architcetural skills from uni and put together a little architectural styling posts of sorts. you know, how to make your room look rad with a cool rug such as this beauty from buyster. clever? well i thought so.

so i will share this before or after with you soon. in the meantime go check out the full range of rugs available.

rain + pretty things

sunny

cloudy

crazy hail + rain (see the umbrella top right? thats my stall)

we have been having some wild weather here in my lovely Melbourne town. Saturday I was sitting there at Rose Street Artist Markets getting a tiny bit sunburnt, only to get smashed by hail stones and a wayward umbrella  about an hour later. My babies got a little wet. I resembled a drowned rat. Not so hot. But apart from that little set back my market weekend was delightful.

and i got a few sweet treats from myself.   like this brooch from okt-ober dee above. i love it. like crazy love it. lauren is a geelong girl who makes completely gorgeous bags and jewelry. i used to swoon over her lovely wares at her shop in geelong when i was a student down there. you should check out her website - and shop up big, if i wasn't going on a holiday i would have purchased about 3 bags yesterday. and a necklace. and more brooches. so dangerous having a stall sometimes!

and........ here are a there are a few  new additions to my shop - some lovely new sewn cards. and only $5. gee what a bargain - even if i do say so myself. go check them out.

4.3.10

markets+ a little sale

So as some of you may know, i am heading away on a little holiday soon to the USA to spend some time with my best friend exploring New York, Seattle, DC, San Fran, Portland + Phoenix. And its coming up pretty soon.

In 54 days actually.

Not that I am counting at all.

What this means is that in 54 days I will not be here in my beloved Melbourne selling lovely stationery and the like for about 5 weeks which is a little sad and scary for me. But great for you. Why you ask? Well I am having a little leaving on a jet plane sale. Yep a sale. So you can stock up on all things truth.be.told and not miss me too much while i am away.

For me it is also a great chance to say bye bye to some of my designs - because I have big plans for my little label that could when I get back. Some of my lovely ladies have been around since the start and whilst I still love them, well I think maybe its time for them to just take a little break for a while and share some of the limelight with my new designs. Never fear though - the wholesale range isn't changing one bit, you will just see a new + fresh group of designs at markets and in my madeit store.

So here is the deal - from this weekend - 6th March until the 22nd April I will be having a wee little sale in my shop + at  my market stalls.  So here is what you will be saving -

Gift Cards now $ 4 each

Sewn Gift Cards now $ 5 each

Notelet sets $ 5 each (normally $14.95)

Writing Sets $ 15 (normally $19.95)

A4 art prints now $ 20

A5 art prints now $10

So check out my shop this Saturday 6th March for the super leaving on a jet plane sale.

Oh and this long weekend I will be at Rose Street Artist Markets in Fitzroy both Saturday and Sunday so do stop on by and say hello! I only have 2 more markets after this weekend

Rose Street Artist Markets - 60 Rose Street Fitzroy 11am - 5pm Saturday + Sundays

oh and also you can now be my fan on facebook. i've always wanted fans :)

things are peachy

the original dress

and the neckline that poofed out a little strangely

add a few buttons.....

and tada  - a whole new dress!

i have a thing at the moment for all things orange. i picked up this lovely super peachy dress on the weekend at the north melbourne market when i had a stall. it was a whole $10. it had a bit of strange neckline situation so i turned it into a sweetheart neckline - clearly all the mad men i have been watching has had an effect. in any case i love it, and i can't wait to stroll the streets in this one
