Helen and Ben - wedding invitations

A couple of months ago I was invited by the very sweet Helen and Ben to design their invitations for their wedding in May this year.

I love it when there is an opportunity to use illustration as a feature when designing custom wedding invitations. Helen and Ben offered my the perfect opportunity to do just that when designing their invitation.

The lovely couple wanted an invitation with a elegant and classic black and white style, complete with a Victorian inspire pair of silhouette portraits of the couple. The couple also wanted to keep things simple and combine all of the information in one piece rather than separate invitations, rsvp, details and maps cards.

The solution was to create a a folded 'shutter' style invitation which allowed us to feature the couples illustrated silhouettes on the facing opening panels. When opened the inside f the invitation includes the event details including rsvp, accommodation and gift registry details. On the reverse panel is a guide map for guests travelling to the wedding complete with a small horse illustration for the groom.

The design features classic book plate style typography balanced with a clean san serif font for the details. A rounded dotted line frames each section reinforcing the Victorian inspiration for the suite.

The colour palette is deliberately monochrome - with a dark charcoal used throughout to again reinforce the sense of elegance. The paper stock is a lovely white linen with a light texture reminiscent of that used in book covers on the Victorian period.

Below are a few photographs of the invitation - it has fast become one of my favourites!

The feature silhouettes one the front panels of the folded invitation set the elegant them the couple plan for their wedding day.

Inside the invitation combines the event details, rsvp, information and gift registry details - and even an instagram hashtag!

The reverse of the invitation is completed by a guide map for guests.

The unfolded 'shutters' reveal a glimpse of the inside detail panel.

Finders Keepers A/W Melbourne Wrap up

-->
So if you follow truth.be.told on facebook, twitter or even instagram you will know that I have been focused on preparing for the Melbourne leg of Finders Keepers lately. And this past weekend the market finally took place!

It all went by in kind of a whirlwind. After quickly setting up my little island stall, it was time to begin on Friday and I must say the crowd was overwhelming and amazing. The atmosphere on both days was so happy and like a big ol’ party with a spot of shopping thrown in. Of course the amazing venue didn’t hurt either – as someone who studied architecture, spending two days inside that gorgeous old dame of a building was pretty spectacular.

I didn’t get a chance to get out from behind the stall to take many photos or have a look around because it was that busy – which is so amazing! I had such a great time and I’m especially happy with the response to all of the new designs and products that debuted at the Market.

And it probably goes without saying that the stallholders were awesome. It was great to catch up with some of my super talented friends – like Emily Green, So Little Time Co., Emma Leonard, Beattie Lanser, Able & Game , Jubly Umph , Lavallier  and The Professors Daughter. Oh and catching up with two of my fave ladies - Renee and Angela was awesome as always. And of course getting to meet lots of others I only know via twitter and instagram - like Alicia from Bespoke Letterpress and Sophie from That Vintage - was equally amazing! And I should also say - my neighbour on our little island Sarah Rothe was so lovely and super talented – check out her jewellery range over here.

Anyone who drops by here often won’t find what I am about to say strange – but I don’t think I would have survived the Market without my dose of cupcakes from Mister Nice Guy Cupcakes. Seriously – I love cake and these are my all time favourite cupcakes. So thanks to the lovely girls behind their stall for being so great!

Thank you so much to everyone who came by and visited. It was great to meet you all and also finally meet some people I know from instagram and twitter too!

I’ve put together a few shots for you in case you missed the market or you just want to relive the fun like I do.

Oh and my online store is now fully stocked with everything in the truth.be.told range so pop over and visit!

Come & visit at Finders Keepers!

I am super excited to finally share with you that I will be at Finders Keepers Market here in Melbourne! I had such an amazing time last year and I can't wait to set up my stall and share all of the new goodies I have busily been working away at the last few months.

And the most exciting part - other than getting to sell my goodies, meet lovely people, have a wine & listen to some sweet music - is the venue. This year the market has moved from down at Docklands to the Royal Exhibition Building at Carlton Gardens. I don't want to sound like a 15 year old but O-M-G am I excited.

The market is set to take place on Friday 20th April 6pm - 10pm and Saturday 21st April 10am - 5pm.

Check out the event details over on facebook or on the Finders Keepers website

I'll be sharing some new peeks in the coming weeks but in the mean time make sure to tell everyone about the market and come by if you can!

art - broomsticks -princesses

This week I have been taking advantage of still being on holidays from my day job and going and visiting all the places I love but never get to visit because I am at work, at a market or at home making something for one of these (the last two I love especially - I'm not complaining).

So this week I packed a sketchbook, sunscreen (I am a pale human) and my beloved DSLR and went to Heide to see the Freehand exhibition which was amazingly inspiring.

I also ventured into the city and visited Campbell Arcade on my way to ACMI for the Dreams Come True exhibition which I loved. I would highly recommend going along if you love all things Disney animation - they had stills and cels from all the 'princess' films and it was fantastic to see the concept layout outs and art work for the films I loved so much as a kid, especially for Sleeping Beauty which is still one of my favourite visual go to sources today.

Oh and apologies for the image heavy post - I got over excited xx
