on my desk

so my desk really hasn't had much love lately so i thought i would share a picture of what was on my desk exactly a year ago.

this time last year i was still at uni just starting my design thesis and well, this is my desk at uni covered in all manner of things. i was deisgning a gallery & artists studios and well, the way i work i have now decided is maybe just a little manic. my pinboard was literally covered with inspiration, a lot of which i have kept and transferred to the studio at home.

so this is what is on my old desk:

: museum + gallery books
: graphics & fashion magazines
: tool box full to the brim of pens & pencils
: my mac book pippi
: models of my site on the right (i made over 30 by the end)
: my little snow globe man 'bowie'
: loads of string and paper

last year was really stressful but i really miss it now because it was basically a year of being with my friends everyday, getting to be as creative as i wanted and just lots of fun really.

this is what makes me happy

its not that hard to make me happy. my family is always saying how i can be so easily entertained by a shiny object and honestly it is true. so i have chosen a few things, new and old, shiny & gold (rhyming makes me happy too) that make me happy:

this awesome green bike basket i saw at the design market at fed square on sunday. it makes me want to get an old malvern star and cruise around with a kitten or something in the basket.
my beautiful new pendants (again from the markets)

nights out with my girls

coloured pencils

paper - i love going to art shops and rifling throught the paper

some of the other things that make me happy: drawing, cupcakes, david bowie music , movies like edward scissorhands, hair ribbons, roller skates

lovely words

this week the lovely kate over at the monday project asked me if she could write a little piece abot my work and i said yes of course! i love the blog so i was very excited indeed. go and have a look here for the full thing but here is a peek:

This week I stumbled upon Jess Hyde's blog truth.be.told where I found some beautiful drawings and collages and all things crafty! She is such a talented drawer and gets bonus points because because she is from Melbourne and because she creates work from her "little bungalow with the help of lots of tea." That sounds just lovely.
thanks kate!

on my desk, pretty dresses & a market to go to

well i have been a little busy (& as a result sleepy) from work this week so here is what is on my desk (a few days late). and its actually my dresser, my desk is a little dusty. i love this dresser mainly because of the mirror.
on my dresser .... cute rainbow mittens, my ipod, cds, glass boxes
and some knick knacks and photos

and......here are my new to me depression glass box & my so so so cute shopping basket! i love coloured glass & have built up a little collection which is slowly running out of places to go.
and if you are in melbourne, take a stroll down to myer bourke street and take a look at what those windows have to offer at the moment. each window has a different dress featured in perfume commercials for dior (above), vera wang, and that pink chanel dress too. its amazing to see them up close, it made my friday

well i'm off to the design festival this weekend & again if you are in Melbourne stop in at the market at fed sq tomorrow. have a good one guys xx

to whom it may concern

to whom it may concern,

when i grow up i know what i want to be. this is going to sound a little odd but i would like to be just like those funsters from the grates. not in a stalkerish way, but in a how much fun do they have kind of way. i mean they get to travel, write songs with their friends and just generally be merry. and patience has the best dresses ever so i am yet to think of a downside. i went to see them last night in st kilda and it was amazing, in fact i haven't been able to wipe the grin from my dial since. so despite the few flaws in my aspirations (ie. i can't sing, am not in a band with my friends etc.) i think maybe if i start with the dresses and making pretty pictures for album artwork then the rest will fall into place.
