DISBAND time!

Ok so I know you are probably tired of me telling you about Disband but I am SO EXCITED!!! So if you are in Melbourne come on down (as Larry would say!) and check it out. The exhibition is open daily 11-6 at No Vacancy Gallery 34-40 Jane Bell Lane at QV (enter the Lane off Russell Street). AND come down to Opening night too - thats on Thursday 26th August 6-9pm. It should be fun indeed.

And below is my last sneaky peek - this piece is called 'i want to hold your hand' and was inspired by the song and the simple (and sometimes painful desire) to just want to hold someone's hand.

Disband: Sneak Peek 2

Only ONE WEEK to go until Disband opens in Melbourne at No Vacancy
Jeepers! I am well and truly excited. I have 3 new artworks for you and I'm kind of pretty stoked with them.
And here is a little sneak peek of one of these newbies as a work in progress.

I'm also excited because in addition to these new artworks I have been helping out as a kind of woman on the ground helping the fabulous Angela and Renee by finding furniture and other loveliness to use in the installation. And it has been fun, except now I have extreme retro furniture envy. Really. So here are some of the goodies that I picked up but to see what the lovely ladies whip them into you will just have to come by the gallery and see!

Oh and don't forget to come to opening night my dears!! Thursday 26th August 6-9pm!!!

disband: an exhibition coming to Melbourne!

well peeps i have some exciting news - remember that rad exhibition DIsband presented by the super talented and lovely due Angela of Leeloo and Renee- Anne that I was part of back in May? Well its coming to Melbourne at the end of August. Exciting right? You bet!

Even more exciting (and scary) is that in addition to 3 brand spanking new artworks, I am also helping to gather all the goodies to go into the installation. Yes, as my family and friends have pointed out I am a crazy woman.

This is actually my first exhibition ever in Melbourne so it is doubly exciting to be exhibiting in my hometown so my peeps will actually believe that I do this stuff! Obviously it will be super fun so if you are in Melbourne please come along to opening night on the 26th August and tell all your friends to come too, it should be a fun night indeed. For more information about the opening check out the facebook event

And in the mean time here is a little sneak peek of one of my new artworks - I'm going for a slightly different more collaged style for these pieces so fingers crossed they turn out how I l hoped. I will share some more shots over the next few weeks!

rainy days

sweet ignorance
beneath what you see

living in melbourne i see my fair share of rainy days, well gloomy finger freezing days anyway. and how does one occupy themselves in this completely lame weather? well, i like to stay inside and drinks cups of tea by the jug full (no jokes - 8 cups today and counting.) oh and sometimes i make pretty things. like the pieces above i just finished for the rainy days exhibition taking place down in Tassie starting July 14 at Cube Art & Design. The are tiny - 10x10cm in fact - and are a little bit of collage, little bit of drawing and a little bit of pastel too. I wish I could go down for opening night but alas I am frozen to my chair. I wish I was kidding

But if you happen to find yourself in fair Tassie, stop by and take a look and even pick up these little gems if you like.

rainy days exhibition  - cube art + design - Shop 8, Salamanca Arts Centre 77 Salamanca Place Hobart
opening 14 july - 27 july

26.4.10

disband sneaky peek

so this is the last sneaky peek of my pieces for disband  because i am about to leave on a jet plane for the states in a little over 48 hours. my little gems are all ready to go and i actually am really happy with the way they have turned out. i kept staring at them in the studio and  being shocked that i actually did them which i know sounds odd. really odd. so anyway, keep an eye out for further updates via these lovely ladies while I am away and if you are in Sydney at the end of the May stop in and see it - it will be unreal :)

22.4.10

disband : sneak peek

So as promised here are a couple of sneaky peeks of my works for Disband, well two of them anyway.
I'm having a lot of fun with these even although I may have had a mini meltdown last night worrying that they wouldn't be finished before I go and that they wouldn't be good enough to grace the walls with works by artists such as these amazing lovely talented peeps.   But you can't stress about these things I guess or my work will be really well, crap.

So here they are for you to peek at :

i think i love the cat more than you

And this one is a little more finished thus the super close up - it was inspired by something this guy said to me ' you close your eyes and think of me, I close my eyes and think of her'. not sure if that will be the name of the piece

So hopefully they aren't too lame! But I will share some more before I head off to NYC next wednesday

20.4.10

disband

so I am super excited I can finally share this with you. Two of my favourite people are once again putting their creative awesomeness to good use and curating an exhibition which I am super lucky to be apart of. After the success of Once Upon last year, Angela and Renee-Anne  present to you Disband, a group show with 16 super talented artist from around Australia.

seeing the ladies say it much better than I could :

Inspired by the 40th anniversary since the break-up of The Beatles, the theme of this carefully curated exhibition, titled Disband, is the end of relationships, be they romantic or otherwise.  With the support of one of Sydney’s favourite indie art venue’s, aMBUSH gallery, Renee and Angela will be creating somewhat of an installation where visitors will tour the apartment of a couple undergoing such a split, and the featured works will be on the wall of their “living space”.

Expect to see original pieces by amazing Australian artists  Kelly Smith, Ben Zen, Laura McKellar and Elisa Mazzone (examples shown in image) as well as talented peeps like Natalie Perkins, Jordan Clarke , Courtney Brims and many more.  On the opening night, you can also expect to see a cute 10-minute play titled “A Toothbrush Tale (We’ll Always Have Peach Tiles)” which was recently a finalist in the international Short & Sweet Festival, by Sydney’s own Anika Herbert.

For more details check out the website + the facebook event page
Opening night  Thursday May 27th, 2010 6pm to 9pm at
aMBUSH gallery 4A James St, Waterloo, Sydney, NSW.
open daily from 10am to 5pm through to Sunday May 30th.

As I will be away I will be sharing some sneak peeks of my work with you all the way from the US of A so keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks. Also the exhibition will be coming to Melbourne in August which I am super super super excited about!

23.11.09

once upon

Well this weekend has been rather full on mainly due to celebrating my birthday a little too well - it became a festival of jess really which was great fun! It all started Thursday really with a whirlwind 24 hour trip up to Sydney for the opening which involved seeing the coolest christmas tree ever, having hulk hogan on my return flight and going to the Once Upon opening. It was super fun getting to see my babies up there with all the amazing work and also getting to meet some of the lovely artists too. The opening for Once Upon at aMBUSH gallery was so great, about 300+ people attended! And i can finally share with you the pieces that I did for the once upon exhibition that has just finished up in Sydney this weekend. My fairytale was The Snow Queen. You can see all of the artwork can be seen on the Once Upon website and you can also purchase any of the artwork that is still for sale. Image sizes are A5 excluding the frame unless specified. If you are interested in making a purchase, please contact renee@leeloo.com.au with your name and mobile number so that we can process the transaction for you.  Thank you to Renee and Angela again because it was so great!!!
